Prepare Soil: Choose well-draining, fertile soil. Loosen the soil to a depth of at least 12 inches and remove any rocks or debris. 2. Plant Seeds: Plant watermelon seeds in hills or rows, spacing them about 6 inches apart. Sow seeds 1 inch deep and cover with soil. 3. Water: Water the soil thoroughly after planting to ensure good seed-to-soil contact. Keep the soil consistently moist throughout the growing season. 4. Provide Sunlight: Watermelons require full sun to thrive. Choose a sunny location with at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day. 5. Fertilize: Apply a balanced fertilizer or compost to the soil before planting. Watermelons are heavy feeders and benefit from additional nutrients during the growing season. 6. Mulch: Mulch around the base of the watermelon plants to retain soil moisture, suppress weeds, and protect the fruits from direct contact with the soil. 7. Support (Optional): For larger watermelon varieties or if growing vertically, provide support for the vines using trellises or stakes. 8. Pollination: Watermelon flowers require pollination to set fruit. Encourage pollinators like bees to visit your garden by planting pollinator-friendly flowers nearby. 9. Harvest: Watermelons are ready to harvest when the tendrils near the fruit turn brown, the bottom of the fruit changes from white to yellow, and the fruit sounds hollow when tapped. Cut the watermelon from the vine using a sharp knife. Note: Growing watermelon from seed requires space, consistent watering, and attention to soil fertility, but it’s a wonderfully rewarding experience that brings joy as you watch your efforts blossom into delicious, homegrown fruit! — Shipping Notice: To sustain our competitive pricing and slim profit margins, we cannot offer reshipments or refunds for delivery issues resulting from “incorrect address” or “no mail receptacle” situations. Note that this item is food grade and is not eligible for returns or refunds. Refunds, returns, or exchanges will not be approved based on the size of a garlic bulb, as this is determined by nature and the duration the bulb remains in the soil. Sellers cannot influence this aspect. Different growth seasons may yield varying bulb sizes; some seasons may produce smaller bulbs, while others may yield larger ones. However, this does not affect the potential size of your garlic bulbs if you choose to plant and grow garlic. The size of the garlic you grow depends on several factors, including the amount of sunlight the foliage receives and how long you leave the bulbs in the ground. Generally, the longer the bulbs are left to grow, the more sunlight the foliage can absorb, resulting in larger bulbs. Approximately 6 cloves per bulb Early season garlic harvest! ***This is not a new listing; I had to relist it and lost all previous ratings and information; thank you loyal repeat customers!*** Variety is a Virginia Gold Heirloom tobacco (N. tabacum), but I like to joke they’re “Great Lakes Gold”, since I grew them right here in the beautiful Great Lakes State! Specifically, these fresh seeds were harvested from mature tobacco plants in southeast Michigan (USDA Zone 6a). I have no idea if they are more hardy to cold temperatures but they certainly coped with them here 😉 In all seriousness, the plants were sown, fed (with organic compost), watered, and harvested by hand, including the seed which was painstakingly beat out of the seed pods with a mallet. For planting and harvesting/curing instructions, please check online or contact me (I will send you an entire written document of the in-depth instructions). The rules are simple but absolutely MUST be followed for good germination, especially heat and humidity requirements. Please note: The seeds are EXTREMELY small, some of the smallest of any crop. Your quantity will appear small, but rest assured I have actually put far more than the 1,000 advertised in the title. For ballpark numbers, 1 gram tobacco seeds = 1 teaspoon = 10,000 seeds. Yes, you’re reading that right. I put about a quarter or third teaspoon so you don’t think I’m cheating you.
