When frost threatens, you can dig the bulbous roots that will have formed, and save them (like dahlias or glads) for next spring.About the Four O’Clocks or the “Marvel of Peru.” This wonderful tropical wildflower has been gracing gardens for centuries. Your grandmother probably grew it and knew the big secret of the older seeds. They are famous for rapid growth and producing glossy-leaved plants having flowers in several colors–on the same plant! The names tell the story. The blooms open in the afternoon, thus the common name “Four O’Clock.” And the botanical name, Mirabilis jalapa should tell you the plant comes from a Spanish-speaking area. “Mirabilis” means “wonderful” in Latin, and the Spanish-appearing “Jalapa” (the j is pronounced as an “h” in Spanish) is a town in Mexico. Then there’s that other common name: “Marvel of Peru.” This exotic descriptive name tells you the plants grow wild in the Andes, and the “Marvel” part refers to the fact that they do produce flowers in several colors on the same plant. Seeds were sent to Europe by Spanish explorers in the 1500’s.The potato-like roots. The bulbous roots. Four O’clocks grow rapidly from seed, and another curious thing about this annual is that they quickly form a bulbous root, much like the common potato. In frost-free places (like Miami), they can be left in the ground year-round, and these big roots simply grow larger and larger over the years. Where there are freezes, the “bulbs” can be lifted in fall, and replanted in spring, giving you large, rapidly developing plants and lots of quick color.Advantages Easy To Grow, Attract Butterflies, Attract Hummingbirds, Attract Birds, Deer Resistant, Rabbit Resistant, Low Maintenance, Fragrant Flower / Foliage, Good For Containers, Groundcover, Evergreen, Extended Bloom Time (more than 4 weeks), Great For Mass Plantings, Multiplies / NaturalizesHOW TO GROW FOUR O’CLOCK SEEDSPlant Propagation:Four O’clock plants are typically grown from large seeds, making them easy to plant. Strawberry Spinach Seeds! *HEIRLOOM* SEEDS OF LIFE

STRAWBERRY SPINACH 45 days. Strawberry Spinach is one of the best-kept secrets of the herb world. A native American plant, this annual sets tiny, deliciously tender leaves that can be cooked like spinach or used fresh in salads. It also sets small red fruits in late summer and fall that taste a bit like mulberries and are lovely fresh or canned. A delectable and useful plant, you’ll want it front and center of the herb garden! It’s always so nice when you can use almost the entire plant instead of just one part, and Strawberry Spinach draws out this pleasure by setting new leaves all season long. Snip off just what you need at the moment, and harvest more later! The foliage is slender, deeply lobed, and appears in rosettes along long, slender stems. You’ll love it!The berries are scrumptious as well. Quite small, they resemble raspberries more than strawberries, but there’s no mistaking that bright strawberry-red hue! The berries arise at the base of each stem, and a plant in full fruit is a glorious sight!Grow Strawberry Spinach in full sun (direct-sowing the seeds works best) and rich, fertile soil. It reaches about 18 inches high and 12 inches wide, and needs no staking or supports. Wild Florida Everglades Tomato Seeds, Heirloom, Organic, Genuine USA

Test Everglades Tomato Check out our other listings! Everglades Tomato (Solanum pimpinellifolium) is the closest wild relative to, and progenitor of, our modern cultivated tomatoes. Considered by some to be native to Southern Florida, this tomato variety likely originated in Peru or Ecuador where it can still be found growing wild. The vigorous, sprawling vines—shrub-like when young, but can spread out up to 10 feet if allowed—produce clusters of currant-like, pink-hued fruits that are bursting with an intense tomato flavor. Grows as an annual or biennial in warm, humid climates and easily self-seeds if some fruits are allowed to ripen and fall to the ground. Tolerant of alkaline soil, brackish water, and salt winds, and resistant to verticillium and fusarium wilts, and late blight. Prefers full sun. Drought tolerant, though blooms and fruits do better with moderate watering. Germination time is slightly longer than modern cultivars. Be patient and allow up to two weeks for the sprouts to emerge! Harvest fruits by clipping the entire cluster as the fruits have thin skin that can tear when attempting to pick individually. 60 days to maturity. Tomato Germination Guide Select the soil and container in which to start your seeds. For soil, use a seed starting mix for the best results. You may also use a soil-less potting mix, which is cheaper and widely available at most garden centers. For the container, use cell packs or a small pot three to four inches tall to start your tomato seeds. Fill your container with potting mix to within ½ inch of the top. Place two seeds on top of the soil near the center of the pot. Planting two seeds is recommended in case one doesn’t sprout. If both seeds sprout, you can pinch off the smaller, weaker plant. Cover the seeds with about ¼ inch layer of potting mix. Gently press the soil down with your fingers to ensure good contact between the seed and soil. Sprinkle or mist water on the seeds whenever the top of layer of soil appears dry. Be careful not to overwater! Soggy soil may cause the seed to rot. Keep your potted seeds in a warm location. The warmer the location is, the quicker the seeds will germinate. If you’re starting your seeds indoors, maintain a room temperature above sixty degrees Fahrenheit. Or, better yet, use a heat mat to provide the seeds warmth and speed up the germination process. You may also cover you pots with plastic and utilize the greenhouse effect to warm up the soil and maintain heat through the night. Be sure to remove the plastic once the seeds have sprouted to avoid disease and fungal infection! Transplant your tomato seedling to a new, bigger pot when it is at least 3 inches in height.
