ASTER, WHITE UPLAND Perennial Xeriscape Full Sun Fall Blooms Non-GMO 200 Seeds

ASTER, WHITE UPLAND Low Grow Perennial Dry Sun Fall Blooms Non-GMO 200 SeedsFresh, Pure Seed – No FillersPRODUCT DESCRIPTIONAster, CRP Practices, Fall Foliage, Meadow Gardening, Native Bees, Pollinator, U.S. Native, XeriscapeWhite Upland Aster, formerly under Aster ptarmicoides, is a perennial that is native to eastern Canada as well as the northeastern and north-central United States. Plants are typically found in dry, calcareous prairies, open woods, bluffs and sandy sites. The small white flowers appear at the ends of stiff branches in late summer. Drought tolerant. CultureWinter hardy to USDA Zones 3-8. Prefers full sun and dry sandy or gravelly calcareous soils. Tolerates some light shade. Drought tolerant. Tolerates moist loams as long as well-drained. Removal of flower heads prior to ripening of seed, if practicable, will help prevent seed dispersal. Stems may be cut to the ground in late fall.Noteworthy CharacteristicsSolidago ptarmicoides, commonly known as upland white goldenrod or upland white aster, is an herbaceous perennial that typically grows to 12-24” tall. It is native to dry, sandy, usually calcareous soils, cracks in rocks, limestone pavements, rocky outcrops, grassy slopes and prairies from Quebec to Saskatchewan south to Georgia, Arkansas, and Colorado. This plant was originally classified as Aster ptarmicoides, but was subsequently reclassified as Solidago ptarmicoides. Notwithstanding its aster-like white ray petals (most goldenrods have yellow ray petals), this plant has goldenrod-like foliage and is known to hybridize in the wild with other goldenrods but not with other asters. After flowering, seed heads containing small clusters of seed with white fluff form (goldfinches love to eat the seed). Harvest promptly if seed is to be saved.Narrow pointed green leaves have smooth or rough textures. Lower leaves (to 7” long) are lanceolate-oval and stalked. Upper leaves are smaller, narrower, and widely spaced, eventually becoming stalkless near the top. Daisy-like flowers in open, flat-topped, corymbiform clusters (each cluster typically having 3 to 25 but sometimes as many as 50 flowers) bloom late summer to fall. Each flower has between 10-20 white rays and creamy white to pale yellow center disks. This is a low mounded plant with narrow, 6-8” long, pointed, lanceolate leaves, and flat clusters of 1/2” daisy-like flowers having white rays and white to pale yellow center disks. Flowers bloom August – October.Genus name comes from the Latin words solidus meaning whole and ago meaning to make in reference to the medicinal healing properties of some species plants.Specific epithet means causes sneezing as memorialized by the sometimes used common name of sneezewort aster for this species.UsesPlants grow as somewhat unexceptional mounds of green foliage until the flowers explode into bloom in late summer. Naturalize in dry locations.FAST FACTSSCIENTIFIC NAME: Solidago ptarmicoidesCOLOR: WhiteSEED TYPE: PerennialSUN: Full SunMOISTURE: DryHEIGHT (IN.): 18-24BLOOM PERIOD: Late Summer – FallUSDA HARDINESS ZONE(S): 4-8 PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS: WHITE UPLAND ASTERSowing: Direct sow the seed in late fall, planting it just under the surface and watering it once. If direct sown in the spring, the seed must be stratified first by mixing it with moist sand and stored in the refrigerator for 6-8 weeks. To start the stratified seed indoors, sow it in a flat; keep the soil evenly moist and at a temperature of 65-70 degrees F until germination, which should take place within 14-20 days. Transplant the seedlings after the last frost of spring.Growing: This plant prefers full sun and sandy or dry soil. It tolerates drought well, and should not need watering unless drought conditions persist. Keep in mind that too much moisture may cause root rot. Keep weeds under control, since this plant does not like competition. Mature plants will benefit from division after two or three years of growth. Cut the stalks down to the ground at the end of the growing season for easier growth in the spring. The flowers attract numerous bees and butterflies, providing a valuable source of nectar in late fall. Deer avoid this plant.Harvesting: Aster Ptarmicoides make lovely cut flowers. Cut the stems long, choosing flowers that have just opened. WE SHIP FAST & FREE! Your orders ship the next business date after payment via US mail. NO TRACKING. True Wild Lettuce Seeds – Lactuca virosa –

~ Opium Lettuce ~ Wild Lettuce (Lactuca virosa) is grown medicinally for the milky white sap that oozes from the plant when cut or broken. ~ Medicinal Use of Wild Lettuce ~ The whole plant is rich in a milky sap that flows freely from any wounds. This hardens and dries when in contact with the air. The sap contains “lactucarium”, which is used in medicine for its digestive, diuretic and sedative properties. Lactucarium has an affect, but without its tendency to cause digestive upsets. It is taken internally in the treatment of insomnia, anxiety, hyperactivity in children, dry coughs, rheumatic pain etc. Concentrations of lactucarium are low in young plants and most concentrated when the plant comes into flower. It is collected commercially by cutting the heads of the plants and scraping the juice into china vessels several times a day until the plant is exhausted. This species contain more lactucarium then any other Lactuca species. An infusion of the fresh or dried flowering plant can also be used. The plant should be used with caution and with the supervision of a skilled practitioner. ~ Propagating Wild Lettuce From Seed ~ Scatter seeds on moist soil, and press them lightly into the soil. Just barely cover the seed as Lactuca needs sunlight to germinate. Germination takes 5 days to two weeks. Transplant seedlings to rich, moist soil and full sun, spacing them 2 ft apart. Wild Lettuce is a biennial, which means in the first year it will make a rosette of leaves, and in the second year the flower stalk(s) will shoot up in early to mid summer to 4-6ft and produce seeds in late summer/early fall. If you’re lucky, it will make seeds the first year. Wild Lettuce is hardy to zone 6 (-10F/-23C).

1000 “Great Lakes Gold” Tobacco Seeds FROM MICHIGAN! Organic, Heirloom, non-GMO

***This is not a new listing; I had to relist it and lost all previous ratings and information; thank you loyal repeat customers!*** Variety is a Virginia Gold Heirloom tobacco (N. tabacum), but I like to joke they’re “Great Lakes Gold”, since I grew them right here in the beautiful Great Lakes State! Specifically, these fresh seeds were harvested from mature tobacco plants in southeast Michigan (USDA Zone 6a). I have no idea if they are more hardy to cold temperatures but they certainly coped with them here 😉 In all seriousness, the plants were sown, fed (with organic compost), watered, and harvested by hand, including the seed which was painstakingly beat out of the seed pods with a mallet. For planting and harvesting/curing instructions, please check online or contact me (I will send you an entire written document of the in-depth instructions). The rules are simple but absolutely MUST be followed for good germination, especially heat and humidity requirements. Please note: The seeds are EXTREMELY small, some of the smallest of any crop. Your quantity will appear small, but rest assured I have actually put far more than the 1,000 advertised in the title. For ballpark numbers, 1 gram tobacco seeds = 1 teaspoon = 10,000 seeds. Yes, you’re reading that right. I put about a quarter or third teaspoon so you don’t think I’m cheating you.
