20+Red Strawberry Popcorn Seeds(Zea mays) Rare Ruby Indian Corn Maize Garden USA

20+Red Strawberry Popcorn Seeds(Zea mays) Rare Ruby Indian Corn Maize Garden USA Named for its 2″ strawberry-shaped ears, this fun variety can be used either for edible or decorative purposes! The dark red kernels contrasted with light husks provide a striking addition to an autumn arrangement. Or, watch the ruby kernels turn white when popped. The short, stocky plant stalks may also be dried and used for autumn decor. Suitable for growing in garden plots or raised beds. Corn tolerates heat and drought-prone regions. This ornamental corn is 4 feet tall, with 2 by 2-inch ears. There are 2 to 4 ears per stalk. SowingPrepare the soil with compost or other organic matter. One week after frost or when the soil consistently reaches 60 degrees F, plant the corn 1 inch deep and 8-12 inches apart. Germination should take place in 5-6 days. GrowingAfter the corn emerges, keep it moist and carefully remove weeds, since corn cannot fight against weeds, mulch may be beneficial. Additional organic matter or compost helps growth, since corn is a heavy feeder. Keep in mind that corn has shallow roots which can easily become damaged by hoeing. Watch out for pests, as corn attracts many problematic insects and animals. HarvestingLeaving the corn on its stalks to completely dry in the field gives the best results. When they are ready to harvest, the stalk and ears will be completely brown with no green coloring at all. Choose a dry location with moderate heat, but out of direct sunlight, hang the stalks upside down, or lay them out flat.

TEOSINTE Nitrogen-Fixing Corn Ancestor (Zea mays ssp. mex./parviglumis) SEEDS

Teosinte, Teosintli, Sacred Corn, Maizillo, Corn of the gods, Ancestral Maize, Wild Maize, Grain of the gods, Father CornSeed packets are available in quantities of either 25+ seeds, 50+ seeds, or 125+ seeds. Use the pull down menu to select size. This seed is USA grown. Teosinte (Zea mays ssp. mexicana/parviglumis) is considered to be the wild ancestor of our modern domesticated corn/maize. Since Teosinte is a direct relative of modern corn, the plant looks very much like a corn plant. It grows tall like corn, except that, unlike corn, it has branches and produces side-shoots (tillers) and becomes bushy. Due to its branching habit, it produces many small single-row ears called spikelets, with each spikelet having 4-12 seeds or kernels. Just like corn/maize, Teosinte was considered sacred by the ancient people of the Americas. In fact the name Teosinte is from the Nahuatl (Aztec) language Teosintli, meaning Sacred Corn. One of the first and main uses of Teosinte by the Pre-Columbian People was that of a source of sugar from the sweet stalks and the tender, immature spikelets. These were cooked and ground into a mash which was then fermented into a type of pulque which was then consumed during religious and ceremonial rituals.Teosinte has a unique feature in that it captures atmospheric nitrogen via aerial roots that it produces along its stalk. This means that it never needs fertilizer and it actually improves the soil fertility where it grows. Its evolutionary cousins, the many varied strains (actually close to 40) of nitrogen-fixing landrace maize, also produce their own fertilizer via a similar system of aerial roots and a symbiotic relationship with certain microbe species. Check out our listing for Giant N-efficiency Nitrogen-Fixing Maize Corn Seed Mix on eBay! In south-central Mexico, where Teosinte is native, indigenous farmers will plant or allow wild Teosinte to grow along with their maize in their corn fields. They believe it will make their corn plants stronger and more productive. The dry seeds are used as a feed for pigs and poultry by the native people of southern Mexico. The stalks are sweet and can be chewed like sweet sorghum or sugarcane stalks. Teosinte is also an excellent food plot for wildlife. Birds love these seeds, especially doves, quail, turkey, and many other species. You can plant a few seeds along your fence line to attract wildlife. We also recommend planting some Marejea-Chipilin along with the Teosinte to increase productivity, growth, and yields.(Please note some of the photos were taken by Verne Lehmberg and used by permission) Complete growing instructions included!! While some varieties are described as noxious weed in some areas, the fast-growing vining plants can also make lovely additions to the garden if kept in check. All morning glory plants produce attractive funnel-shaped blossoms of various shades like white, red, blue, purple and yellow with heart-shaped leaves. Blooming usually occurs anywhere from May through September, opening in the morning and closing in the afternoon. Most types are annual, though in some warmer regions they will come back yearly or may re-seed themselves in almost any zone they grow in. How to grow Morning Glory Flowers Growing morning glories is easy. They’re great for containers when provided with a trellis or placed in a hanging basket. Morning glories prefer full sun but will tolerate very light shade. The plants are also well known for their tolerance to poor, dry soils. In fact, the plant can easily establish itself in any slightly disturbed area, including garden edges, fence rows and roadsides where the vine is commonly seen growing. Even with the plant’s tolerance of poor soil, it actually prefers well-draining soil that is moist, but not soggy. Morning glory plants are easily started by seeds sown directly in the garden after the threat of frost has passed and the soil has warmed up. Indoors, the seeds should be started about 4-6 weeks before the last frost in your area. Since morning glories have relatively hard seed coats, you should soak the seeds in water overnight or nick them before sowing. Sow the seeds of morning glory about ½ inch deep and give them about 8- to 12-inch spacing. Once plants have reached about six inches or so in height, you may want to provide some type of support for the vine to twine around. Those planted in hanging baskets can simply be left to spill over the container’s edge. Care of Morning Glory Flowers The care of morning glory plants is also easy. In fact, once established they require little attention. Ideally, the soil should be moist, but not wet. Water them during dry periods, once or twice per week. Container plants may require additional watering, especially in warmer regions. To reduce re-seeding and control unwanted spreading, simply remove spent blooms as they fade or all the dead vines after the first killing frost in fall.
